Sifu Bill - Profile
I have been training continuously in Martial Arts for the best part of 45 years. Starting with Judo in the mid to late 60's, and boxing in the RAF in the early to mid 70's.
My training included 4 year period of Kook Sul Won in the 70’s under Richard Roper in Norwich and Shotokan and Wado Ryu for 8 years up until 1985 in the UK.
From 1985-87, I continued Wado Ryu in Berlin under Rene Gestenberger as part of his Spandau Wado Ryu class. On my return to the UK I started training Wing Chun style, 5 hours a day 5 days a week, with Sifu Harry Canon who was one of Sifu Kwoks early students from the Doncaster club. Sifu Cannon was in semi-retirement recovering from injury in a severe road accident.
I first trained with GM Kwok in late 1987. This cemented my love of the art and I have been his student ever since.
GM Kwok certified me as Instructor in 1990, promoted me to Senior Instructor in 2008 and finally to Master Instructor in 2011.
In 2012 Bill was given international recognition as a Master of the Martial Arts (Wing Chun) by the World Wide Martial Arts Council. With my certificate endorsed by eighteen 6th-10th Degree world renowned Black Belt martial artists.
I have been a Board Member of the Samuel Kwok Wing Chun Martial Arts Association for a number of years, helping to support GM Kwok to promote Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu worldwide.
To ensure continuous improvement of my Wing Chun standard, I am in constant contact and communications with Sifu Kwok, other SKWCMAA Masters and Sifus from across the world. I've been honoured to interact personally with them at annual training Camps in Portugal and as members of visiting teams accompanying Sifu Kwok to Hong Kong and mainland China.
I also regularly train with UK and Chinese Sifus that I have met and become friendly with over the years.
Somerset Wing Chun Kung Fu was formed with the objective of offering quality Wing Chun Kung Fu training to students in the Somerset area, without being limited by politics or restrictions.
