Wing Chun Classes in Weston-super-Mare
Somerset Wing Chun teaches traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu in Weston-super-Mare, following the teaching and lineage associated with Grandmaster Samuel Kwok.
Our Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art with a distinctive approach to movement, positioning and the use of the body. Its training combines individual practice with structured partner exercises, allowing students to understand the principles behind the techniques rather than simply memorising movements.
Wing Chun is not simply a collection of hand movements. Students gradually learn how its principles influence their stance, movement, positioning and interaction with a training partner.
The aim is to understand how the different parts of the system work together. This takes regular practice, patience and attention to detail.
Our classes welcome complete beginners and experienced martial artists aged 16 and over.
We follow a progressive syllabus, introducing fundamental movements before developing more advanced techniques and training methods.
What Do You Learn in Wing Chun?
Training covers several connected areas of the Wing Chun system:
- Stance and structure – Develop a stable stance, coordinated body movement and an understanding of balance and alignment.
- Footwork and positioning – Practise stepping, turning and adjusting your position in relation to another person.
- Hand techniques – Learn the movements, deflections, strikes and combinations associated with Wing Chun.
- Forms – Use traditional forms to practise movements, develop coordination and understand the structure of the system.
- Partner training – Explore distance, timing, positioning and controlled movement through structured exercises.
- Chi Sau (Sticking Hands) – Practise one of Wing Chun's distinctive partner exercises, developing sensitivity, timing and responses to changing pressure.
