Meet or Senior-Students

An Essential Part of the Club

Senior Students at Somerset Wing Chun Kung Fu are long-term practitioners who have trained consistently for over eight years, with many reaching 12–15 years of continuous practice.

They form the core of the club, representing its highest standards of skill, commitment, and loyalty .

Their regular training, dedication, and ongoing support make them trusted assistants to the Club Instructors.

Senior Students help maintain the quality, culture, and spirit of the club.

Role within the Class

 Training support:

  • Senior Students work closely with junior members, helping them understand techniques, drills, and applications in greater depth.
  • Assessment support:
They provide pre-assessment guidance and feedback, giving instructors a broader view of each student’s progress and readiness.
  • Knowledge and standards:
As Instructor-level students, they have achieved a high level of knowledge and competence in the system. They assist in teaching but do not run clubs of their own.

If a Senior Student chooses to open their own school, they are automatically awarded a full Instructor Certificate.

Why They Matter

We have a high student retention rate, and the Senior Student structure helps keep the club welcoming and balanced.

It avoids a situation where most of the class are titled instructors, which can feel intimidating for new students.

Instead, titles are earned over time, and the focus remains on learning, progression, and community.

Certification

The Senior Student Certificate formally recognises:

  • Status within the club
  • Long-term dedication and loyalty
  • Ongoing support of the instructors and classes

It is a mark of respect, awarded only to those who have contributed to our growth and stability over many years.
